Finding good Indian food in Vang Vieng hasn’t always been easy. While there have been three different Indian restaurants over the last fifteen years or so, the quality hasn’t always been great (no names being mentioned), and the pandemic killed off the last one a couple of years back.
When the restaurant opened the menu was limited. However the menu has been expanded considerably. Now you can expect to find all the usual choices and your favourites as well as a few surprises perhaps.
There are vegetarian options including butter paneer masala, aloo jeera, and veg pulao. And for those carnivores, you can enjoy butter chicken and vindaloo among many other options. Of course, there are also a range of breads with naan and chapati included.
But apart from the staple dishes you might expect you can also try Afghani chicken tikka, manchow soup, chole bhature, and dahi ke sholey. The latter is made up of dahi, bread, frozen milk yoghurt and fresh vegetables.
And, don’t forget to order a lassi or Indian tea to wash it all down with.
Opposite Sakura Bar and next door to Mini Indy Bar. Taste of India is very easy to find, and is located right in the centre of Vang Vieng. Simply, click on this link to find the location.
The restaurant opens in the morning for those wanting to get lunch and closes again at 2pm. It reopens at 5pm.
They are also on FoodPanda, so if you’re feeling lazy and want a curry delivered to your guesthouse then check out the app or website to place an order.
At Discover Vang Vieng we try to write objective blog articles and without biases. That said, obviously if we enjoy a restaurant or drinking hole there is always going to be some favouritism. However, that’s because those places are doing something good and deserve to be put in the spotlight.
Taste of India might not fit into this article about enjoying Vang Vieng on a budget, but most tourists should be able to afford a meal there with the current exchange rates with no problem.
While Taste of India is more expensive than getting chicken fried rice in a local restaurant, it should be taken into account the imported spices being used, and the different ingredients and cooking styles.
Currently, Taste of India has a 5 star rating on TripAdvisor and 4.8 on Google from 97 reviews. So, in our opinion, Taste of India is definitely worth a visit if you’re missing your local curry house while on holiday. .
